We're considering placing a custom order, and I was curious what the scoop is with custom orders and dealer allocations. Does a custom order actually count against a dealer's monthly stock allocation? Or is it a fully separate process? I recently ordered a Ford F150 and Ford's custom ordering process is completely separate from dealer stock allocations, and actually the manufacture of custom orders is prioritized ahead of dealer stock allocations. I'm wondering if Volvo is the same story, because if a custom order doesn't come out of their allocation, then the same 'supply constraints' that are driving up prices don't really apply to the order, and you should be able to negotiate a much better deal.
