XC90 Leave on charger?
Hi All! New to the PHEV world and just picked up a 2022 xc90 recharge. Is it bad to top off charge every time I come home from short trips? IS it bad to leave on the charger overnight? Want to manage battery longevity with saving gas by having a full battery. Thanks all!
No need to micro-manage charging like you might on a cell phone. The system is designed with a relatively large "buffer" in the battery specifically because these batteries do tend to get deep cycled and charged frequently. The charge system will take care of maintaining the buffer for you and I believe that battery has a 100k mile or 8 year warranty that guarantees 80% capacity.
So - bottom line - don't sweat it - just charge, drive, and enjoy the savings!

One caveat to this - if you believe you won't drive the car for an extended period (let's say a week or so), it would be better to wait and charge it back up when you're ready to drive it again. Leave it sitting at a lower charge - more than 25% and less than 75%. Even that isn't a huge deal because the buffer means it wouldn't sit at 100% charge even if left on the charger.
Only time will tell how well these batteries hold up over the years and charge cycles.

RE: charging, as others have said on here, it's meant to charge by plugging it in or just driving it. The on-board computers will totally manage the charging, you just need to plug it in whether at home or outside a store that offers charging, or by just driving it. I had an electrician install a 240v breaker in my panel (which is on the garage wall by the car) and it's great. I plug the car in every time I pull into the garage. Haven't noticed any difference in my electric bill either.
Enjoy the car as it was meant to be enjoyed :-)
