XC60 Longer charging cable for XC60 Recharge?
This past weekend we picked up our preordered 2023 XC60 T8 Recharge, so far, we absolutely love it. I've been looking to find a longer charging cable for 110v/Level 1 charging at home, does anyone have any recommendations/advice? We live in DC and do not have off-street parking or a garage, but I do have outlets at the front of my house that I could use for charging with a long enough cable. Unfortunately, the supplied charging cable is just under 20', whereas we would probably need around 33'/10 meters to reach our outlets. Volvo doesn't seem to make anything longer than 22', and the only thing I've found is a Lectron J1772 extender/adapter. Has anyone used one of these successfully? Any other options I should look at?
Why not make your own cable or buy a heavy duty 50 ft extension cord? 12/3 guage should be ample for a 110V 15A (go with 10/3 if you have a 20A ) outlet. Who did the charging station install (ie the socket)? I'm sure the electrician would also make you an extension cord (they did one for me when I got a 220V generator hook up installed...) PS - there are also shops that make custom length cables - try googling "J1772 plug"
Charging off 110V is going to be painfully slow, like 16+ hours if you have the 18.8 KW battery pack.
Do you have any 240V outlets in your house like for example for the dryer or a second AC unit that was 240V?
You might consider talking to an electrician and see how much it would cost to run a 240V line from your breaker to the front of your house and just replace the existing socket with a 240V socket.
As a note to those suggesting a long extension cord, better make sure that is at least 10/3 and I'd suggest getting your own wire, and getting some really good like Hubbell plugs and making it yourself and then upgrading the front socket on the house to something industrial rated.
Pulling 15 to 16 amps for as long as it will take to charge your vehicle to full is going to be an unusual load condition on your plugs and outlets (remember a 20A 120v circuit and plugs are barely rated to run 15A/16A for long steady periods of time).
You can also buy some charging boxes with extra long cables on Amazon if you want to spend like $600 or so.
But again just understand how long it's going to take to do level 1 charging.

I just brought this home. The salesman said not to use an extension cord, as it could blow up the house and car. The 20-foot cord is not long enough, as I would need approximately 35 feet. I bought a Charegpoint Flex to go in the garage, but with other cars in the driveway, we can not park in the garage, and the cord is not long enough. What have others found helpful to charge the car?
You should be able to have an electrician make you an extension cable or shop online for a cable. If you decide to have one made for you, the cable has to be capable of handling the amps (ie 14 guage is good for 15 amps, 12 gauge is good for 20 amps etc) that charger is wired so it may require 6 or 8 guage depending on the amps. Then the next thing is to know which connectors your car requires to make sure it fits.
