XC60 Vehicle wheel changes at port && OSD
I have an XC60 Recharge, 2023, on order and due at my dealer soon. I observe that the standard XC60 road wheel sizes are mapped to trim levels:
= = = = =
I'm certainly interested authoritative confirmations of that suspicion (statements from Volvo US, testimonials from port workers, etc.), if anyone knows of such.
If the suspicion is valid, then I'm somewhat annoyed that wheel size is bound up in trim level with a "bigger is better" simple-mindedness. This isn't like a "heads-up display" feature–which requires significant configuration changes only feasible at the time of assembly–but rather a change so easy that Volvo simply flips wheels before delivery. I'd rather my XC60's 18" wheels weren't replaced with 20" wheels; I don't even care if the price of the Ultimate package wasn't reduced in the process.
OSD
It's been almost a decade since my last Overseas Delivery. Back in 2013, the OSD process included an "un-bundled option list" that let me, as the purchaser, pick individual options rather than being offered a "take it or leave it" package. I used that flexibility to set the car's configuration to suit me. For folks who've recently bought new Volvos through OSD, is that "un-bundled option list" still a feature of the program?
Cheers, and thanks for reading.
- Core == 18" wheels (with at least one larger-diameter option)
- Plus == 19" wheels (with at least one larger-diameter option)
- Ultimate == 20" wheels (21" and 22" are available as options)
- My local dealerships seem clueless, with one Tire & Trim manager asserting that the XC60 has a 'staggered' wheel setup, with different widths front and rear.
- A dealership in New England used the VIN to get a 'build sheet' and stated that my XC60 came with 18" wheels.
- A dealership in the Great Plains, who seems to regularly have sets of nearly-new 'take off' Volvo wheels for sale, said they'd "Just heard from the port, and we should be getting some soon".
