Default '01 s40 1.9t-head gasket replacement

brand new to forum format, never used one b4 and hopefully i'll get the responses I need. What I'm looking for is a step-by-step tutorial/video to enable me to change out a head gasket on my grandkid's '01 s40 1.9t. I'm sure there has got to beother posts that someone can direct me to. Will I need any specialty tools? Will be greatly appreciated
thanks

If you remove the CVVT gear from the exhaust cam then you will need a cam holder tool to reposition the gear.

Default cvvt gear

i am going to disassemble today, and I assume because the head is aluminum I will have to send in head to have it resurfaced. Does the cvvt gear have to come off to have this done? I was thinking of just sending complete head assembly in.

You will have to remove the cam cover to get the head off - so its all going to come apart. You should leave the hub and gears on the cams. You can slide the new cam seals over the cams from the other end when yo put it back together

finally got it done, but in reflection, I'm sure this would have been 10 times easier if I would have just pulled the motor out and done this procedure on an engine stand-FYI

Good to hear you completed the job.

I agree with you about removing the engine. I did mine like you with the engine in the car. All bent over trying to move things out of the way so I can move other things. Pain in the back for sure. Took me about 4 days total to get everything in order.
