Default This 01 S40 in a problem child....

If it's not one thing, it's another (76000 when I bought it)

Had to change the cam gear, positioning sensor & timing belt (78000 miles) after the codes came up.

All seemed to be good so:

New front tires, balance and alignment.

2000 miles later:

Car doesn't want to idle on first start in the morning. Keep revving until it finally settles down and off we go. Runs great once I'm going, and runs good all the rest of the day.

Then a code for "misfire" comes up (A few days later when the car is running great).

Figure I'll change the plugs first (when I have a chance) to see if that's all it is (supposedly can be a coil).

So today:

The driver side windshield wiper breaks!

I gather there's no easy way to get at the works that drive the wipers, and I can't really drive with only the passenger side working.

D*** this car!

That's a pretty short list for a 12 year old car. Drive an old car and you have to know a good mechanic or become a good mechanic. Don't want to deal with it? Buy a new Toyota.

Short list?

My 1988 BMW 735, with 435,000 miles, had ONE problem. It needed new shocks.

You did not just compare a 7 series BMW to a S40 did you?
