01 S40 starts occasionally HELP! HELP! HELP!
I have a 01 S40 130,000 miles when I try to start it turns over for a half second and then nothing. It may start for days or sit for days, I have replaced the starter, Ignition switch and even had my mechanic put a push button starter on it bypassing everything,it will turn over for an hour, and still nothing. Anybody have any idea what it could possibly be. Thank you in advance! Robert.
I would be moving my troubleshooting over to the battery and the leads to the starter. Are the pos and neg terminals nice and snug? Do either of the cables look frayed near where they connect to battery terminals? Are you getting voltage to the starter when the issue manifests itself? Are you getting a spark to each plug?
If all that checks out, are you getting fuel pressure to the rail? There is a fuel pressure regulator at the end of the rail that is known to act up. It could cause a difficult start condition.Wait, just reread are you saying it turns over but won’t start or are you saying it does not turn over. If the latter, try one thing before all else. Take the idle control valve off and give it a thorough cleaning with brake cleaner and put it back on making sure that gasket is intact. In fact if this is your problem you should be able to start the car by flooring the gas while you crank (try this before taking the icv out).
