02 s40 1.9d cutting out at junctions etc
Hi, I need urgent help with this porblem, my s40 stalls as i approach a stop but will start no problem after, also when idling it drops revs to almost stall point and then picks up again, i have had to zip tie the accelerator pedal at a point where it holds revs at just above 1000 rpm. also struggles to accellerate after 3000rpm almost like it is not getting fuel, i have changed all the obvious stuff like filters and also had some valve on the turbo de-coked...can anyone please help with this problem or does anyone know how to adjust idling correctly.........
Many thanks for any input and advice

You can't adjust the idle the computer does it.
On the front of where the cable is look for a cylinder looking thing. That is the idle motor.Try removing it and cleaning it and see if it helps. Also check all the fuses under the hood good and make sure none are blown.

Hi, when you say look for cable i guess you mean the accelerator cable ?. i have had a look for this and as far as i can see there is no cable, the pedal is fitted direct onto an electrical unit of some sort.!!!!

The S40's weren't the electronic setup till 2004.5.
There should be a cable under the hood under a plastic cover. The cover has 1 phillips screw and 1 torxes 30 screw holding it on the motor.

SIMMO,
Did you solve this problem? if so how?
Does anyone else know what might be the problem here? I have exactly the same symptoms, driving is fine, then after some period of time (could be 5 mins, could be an hour), the power becomes iffy, and idling rough, then eventually the car stalls and cannot be restarted for 10-30 mins or more. I have a 1998 2.0T manual.

2001 S40 with same problem. Dealer repalced the idler motor $330. No issues now with idling.
