Default 02 s40... will crank but wont start w/o starting fluid

Have an 02 Volvo s40... Thing has been running great... started every morning during a week of -30 temps... the 2nd batch of -30 temps all hell broke lose... itll crank crank crank but no fire. if i spray a little starting fluid in the air intake, itll fire right up and idle fine and what not... i just changed the plugs cuz that was the least expensive thing i could think of at the moment. What could cause this issue??

Probably a fuel pressure problem.
Especially if it starts with the starting spray.
Check your fuel pressure and the fuel pump function.

+1, usually fuel pressure regulator. Check the pressure first.

Thanks for the quick replies. after doing some tests to see if the injectors were getting any power, they wre not... i went and messed around with the key and ignition and it fired right up. i beleieve the anti theft for it is sticking in the ignition or something which makes the injectors to not fire... weird i guess
