05 S40 T5 with a blown engine???
Hello everyone,
As someone who has been around cars for some time now I just can't keep myself away from projects... I had just finished my last one 02 A4 1.8T Quattro with the sport package... paid only $600 for it, yes that correct $600 for the car which came with brand new tires lol... long story short the car "needed and engine wire harness'' quoted by the audi dealer at $3000 plus installation, but it only needed a new crank position sensor and few wires rewired... So now I have a really really nice very rear blue color A4 B6 in my car collection.
Anyhow with this project completed now, I feel bored, I found a 2005 S40 T5 with 136K, fwd auto for sale locally... I believe its black on black but that's not the point now. After contacting the owner he explained to me that he had purchased the car knowing that it will need an engine... soon he found himself a new job and time does not allow him anymore to mess with the car. The car is complete he purchased it from the previous owner knowing that it will need an engine, had his mechanic look at it to come to the conclusion that "the engine threw a rod through the oil pan.
I am pretty new to the Volvo cars, but I am not new to the engine build and so on...
Bottom line is I can get the car pretty pretty cheap, almost too cheap, but I am worried that in the worst case I might need to just drop another engine in it which seems to be the easiest, but most expensive repair. I looked around and the b5254t3 is quite the expensive little toy!!!
My question to everyone is how common are those engines to failure? To me it smells like the previous owner tried to beat the S**T out of it, but the seller tells me that he had no idea how to drive the car. There are some obvious "upgrades" such as smoked tail lights and the euro license plate on the front bumper... which brings me to the suspicion that some punk was trying to play Fast N Furious game...
I did some research here on the forum but could find any info for a blown T5 engine
Any help/info is appreciated.
Thanks

Makes sense... I am exited to see the car, who knows it might actually be worth fixing it... I found a few engines locally priced at about $1200 to $2500 depending on the millage, but the majority had between 40K and 130K...

Blown Eng.
I know I'm a bit late to the thread, but I've blown my 05 T-5 (out of the blue) over heated and then needed a heater core. But it was well worth the cost for my local guy $4300. when I called Volvo as usual they stated get a new car or for us to repair just part of it was $6800, that's without the core.
That happened at about 126000 miles on it; now still going with 190000 on it and drives like a dream.
