04 S40 Shifting Issues
Hello i have an 04 S40 I got off ebay a while ago and has been running great until recently it's been struggling shifting between 2 & 3rd especially.
It has a 1.9 decal but I've been told via VIN number from a local Volvo shop that it's a 2.0? I'm not sure if they round up or not, but also I believe its LSE, having leather seats and wipers on the headlights.
I've taken it to the shop for a check up and it didnt come back with any codes and the only thing they could tell me is that it takes a little more oil pressure between 2nd and 3rd to shift, but they specialized in transmissions and I dont know if they were just trying to charge me for a rebuild I didn't need.
Is there any known transmission problems with this model and year? I've done some research and it seems like it could possibly be a the TCM (Transmission Control Module) or some other electric issue causing this?
Please if someone can shed some light on this, I don't want to spend alot of money on things that are necessarily broke.
Thank You!!!

The North American 2000-2004 models were all four cylinder 1.9L turbo cars. The North American 2004.5 and up cars have either 2.4L or 2.5L five cylinder engines.
Check the color and smell of the trans fluid. It's supposed to be bright red and not smell burnt. When mine started acting up the fluid had turned a brownish black. I drained and replaced the fluid twice to get it to about 75% fresh. It seems to have helped.
