Default 06 S40 Plumbing Issue

I found this today while changing the plugs on this car today. It's the tube that runs from the oil filter housing to the top of the cylinder head. Some sort of crankcase ventilation I'm assuming. I cleaned it up as best I could and put some red RTV over the hole. But I don't know if that'll hold it or not. The clamps on it are not removable without cutting them off. Somebody told me when I first posted here about a recall on some of the PVC lines for this car. I was just wondering if that hose was covered under the recall. It doesn't look like pvc but I'd like for it to be right now.

Yes, that is covered by a recall, along with the oil filter housing, on some models. The dealer will need to check by your VIN to see if it applies to your car.

Hurry up!

The recall is real, but it's capped at 10 years or 120K miles, whichever is first.

The recall is not capped. There is also a service bulletin extending the warranty on those parts to 10 years or 120,000 miles.

That'll put me out then. It's got 156000 on it now.

Unless the recall applies. Recalls are good forever.

Okay, my apologies. I seen 10 years or 120000 miles but I'm assuming they extended the warranty. But there's a recall on it too if I'm understanding right.

There's a recall on some cars and a service campaign on others. The recall is good forever and the oil filter housing and hose are replaced no matter what on those cars. The service campaign extends the warranty and the parts are only replaced if they fail within 10 years or 120,000 miles.

You'll need to call the dealer with your VIN to see if you have the recall open.

Will do, thanks a bunch guys! Next up is the CV axle on the right side and I still have to get the parts up to do the timing belt and water pump. I sure am ready to put my wrenches away for a while. It seems to always be something when you own more than one older vehicle. The plugs had never been changed in this volvo. I should've taken a picture of them to post along with the picture of that hose. I couldn't believe the thing was still running. Someone just drove this car and didn't do anything but maybe change the oil when it was due.

I finally got around to calling the dealer yesterday about this recall. They said there's no recall for my particular car. It looks like that hose is available for about 25 bucks. The clamps that are on the original hose are going to be the problem. They'll have to be cut off. I've cut those types of clamps before with a pair of diagonal cutting pliers. These clamps look a little thicker though.

The clamps are easy. Put a flat head screw driver in the part of the clamp that is pressed down after being pinched together and turn the screwdriver to pry it open. This pops it off in most cases but you might have to twist it a little more to separate the clamp.
