I've got an 06 S40 and need to throw some 18's on. I love the 5 spoke pattern on S40's like Heico's and Peg's but I DO NOT want to throw down $400/wheel. I'm looking to spend closer to $200/wheel or less but am having some real trouble finding 18"s, 5x108 with a 5 spoke pattern that comes to the lip.

All I've found so far are:

TSW Vortex (my local Les Schwab said TSW would drill 5x108 for me): tsw vortex rims and tires packages. tsw vortex hypersilver wheels and tires packages at WheelsNext.com

Between the two I think the Elbrus looks way better the compliment the curves on the s40 more.

The TSWs look really bland.

 

Never been a fan of either one of those wheels.. I'd say go with your first thought of Pegs of Volution's, but go used. Or Midars look amazing as well. The SS classifieds will be your friend if you really want them. I got my refurbished and powder coated (the color of my choice) Pegs for $800 shipped off of Swedespeed.

Try craigslist too. It's a stretch but I got my midir's for $400 with brand new snow tires on cl just gotta get lucky

 

Matt, thanks so much for these links man! Regarding powder coating...how much does that generally cost and does it effect the strength of the wheel? Would powder coating cover up the slight curb rash that many of the used wheels have?

 

I've seen Powder coating done from $50-$100 a wheel depending on how much prep work is needed. The Prep work will be the determining factor on the overall price. There have been talk about Powder coating making wheels weak, but of my friends and I have had powder coated wheels and none of us have ever seen any ill effects from the process.
The powder coating process it's self wont hide anything, but the some shops can do the refinish work to make them proper.
