Hey new to the site and really need some help. My 2000 s40 ran pretty well when I got it in November. But I am not encountering some problems. First my engine keeps getting really close to overheating but the fan comes on and cools it down, is this normal. And this only happens when I'm not moving with the engine running. Also my RPM starts going to 4 and my car starts to feel like it's in first gear this happens when I'm in the middle of driving. I figured out that if I put the car in N then back to drive it starts driving like it should. What's wrong?

There are 2 fans though, one is the a/c, make sure they both work. One may not be working.
