Can anyone tell me if the engine mounts on this car can be tightened easily and/or replaced by an owner? Where are they located at? Is there any special tools, etc. that are needed? Thx...

 

Should have said 2000 S40...

 

They are so so.
On a scale of 1 to 10 I would say about 7.
One is right off the front of the engine.
One is under the Air filter box.
There is 2 under the car.

 

Did you ever figure out the problem? I have a 2000 Volvo S40... same problem. Vibration starts at 50 mph... get worse at 65 and stops during decelaration. I was told it might possibly be the tires so I relpaced them with brand new ones today. Same problem. I was told to get an alignment next but I think the struts might also be bad... shouldn't the struts be replaced first?? Please let me know if you figured your problem out. Thanks,

Is the vibration only there during Acceleration?

 

i have seen quite a few axle shafts become dry and start vibrating. not saying that is your prob, but could look into it,


Also, any bent wheels? volvo wheels are known or being bent

 

I started having the same problem with 2001 s40 Vibration only on acceleration, 4 new tires balanced and front end alignment doen last week. Also anyone know the cost of motor mount or CV replacement?

 

i have a 2000 s40 (100k miles) with heavy vibration during idle( as well as during acceleration), and i think its the mounts. Not sayingyour mounts aren't bad, but something else may be contributing to your problem as well...

(That said, what is a fair price for changing out all 4 mounts?)
