Default 2000 s40

Hey everyone, new here and was hoping for some help.
My wifes 2000 S40 randomly downshifts while cruising down the highway. She has to pull over and shut off the car for about 5 minutes, than continue on her journey with no problems. it seems to reset something when she turns it off. First happened about a year ago, and after a few times, didnt happen anymore. Just started doing it again last week after a year of no problems. She has said sometimes , when she starts the car back up, after a 5 minute wait, it idles at over 3000 rpm. After turnng the car off again and restarting, it will idle normally. No codes come up when checked and fluids are full and clean. I'm stumped.
Thanks in advance for any help.

This is a great little car, other than this dilemna

I'm thinking a loose electrical connection at the trans. Just a guess.
