2000 S40 cel code p1281
First let me say greetings, old mechanic but new to Volvo and this forum.
I have the above referenced code and cannot clear it or even find out a consistent definition of it. Some places say its a fuel pressure control sensor and others say its a too long to warm up code. When I clear the codes it does not turn off the cel even for a second. Not sure where either the temp sensor or the ICP sensors would be located. Can anyone help?

The 2000 does not have a fuel pressure sensor so that would eliminate it for this year car. The temp sensor is located in the side of the t-stat housing.
Does the car actually take a long time to warm up? The temp gage needle should start moving off the full cold mark in a couple 3 minutes or so.

Ive been searching around on the site linked below using the P1281 code you stated in your thread.
OBD-Codes OBD-II Trouble Codes - DTC Codes Car Repair
It seems to imply that the engine coolant temperature is too low.
P1281
Engine is Cold Too Long
Engine coolant temperature remains below normal operating temperatures during vehicle travel (Thermostat).
You may only have a faulty thrermostat or temperature sensor.
that can set off the CEL.
