I was wondering if anyone out there knew what a part was called and where I could order a part for the front end of my 2000 S40.
I just replaced the strut mounts on the front end because of a clunking sound when turning. This problem disappeared when the new strut mounts were installed. The mechanic told me that the bushing above the spring but below the strut mount was bad and needed replacing. He didn't have access to the part, so he put the old one back. I have been looking for it ever since. I now have a periodic squeek that sounds like metal on metal. I went to Volvo parts and they couldn't order just the bushing ring for me because they have an entire kit for the front strut. It is included in this kit, but it would cost a couple hundred dollars for this stupid bushing. Volvo parts mistakenly ordered the spring seats for me but I didn't take them because I think those are fine. I was hoping someone knew the name of the part and where I could get 2 (preferrably on the internet or in San Diego). Any ideas?

Call the parts dept of a Volvo dealer and get a part number. I don't see a bushing listed anywhere for struts on your car. I do have multiple listings for v70 and other models. I don't know if some of these use the same part. Post the part number and I will send you a link if I find a match.

 

sorry for the lag time on this. I got the part number from Volvo. Its #30874805. Thanks for the help.

I can't pull up parts by Part# but are you talking about the top plate that bolts from the bottom to the strut tower?

If so then they come as a set. It is like 3 peices. The upper with the studs a bearing and then the lower plate that goes on the top of the spring.

 

The plate on top of the spring is the spring seat I am guessing, but according to the diagram that volvo has, there is a ring that cushions it and the upper strut mount. Is this correct? I have already replaced the upper strut mount, which came with the bearing.
I was told by the mechanic that replaced the mounts, that the rubber peice below the strut mount, but above the spring was bad and needed replacing or it would ruin the mount. This is what I need and hopefully will fix the bad metal on metal squeek.

 

You must need the spring isolaters That is a rubber thin washer looking thing?

It looks like I have to go get the whole strut kit for both sides then even though I just need a 10 dollar rubber bushing. Yipee. Volvo takes another bite out of my check book for their bad design.

 

how much did that run you?

 

The full kit up costing 120 and you have to buy 2 because it adjusts the ride height 8mm. So 240 just for the parts.

 

That sounds alot different than what i had to go through. I had no problems getting the parts. Volvo brought them in a week, I think they cost 24 cad ea. Installation was a nightmare to say the least, but that is another story.
