2000 S40,hesitation after 60k service-HELP
well,
it never fails, trying to be a nice guy and this is what i get. being an x-BMW tech, i offered to help out my neighbor and do the 60k service on her 2000 S40 (59,xxx total miles). Followed the book, all inspections and parts recommended. Everything genuine Volvo expect for bosch platnum plugs, sourced locally.
did all work, returned car. next day, she said it was hesitating and check engine light flickered. I gotcar back, no codes in ECU. Test drove and it hesitated for me, I stayed in the throttle for a while and CEL came on, P0303 (misfire cyl 3). For the hell of it put old (original volvo) plugs back in, cleaned all coil input & output connections, ohm tested the two plug wires, reassembled and it still hesitated, P0302 (misfire cyl 2).
For the hell of it, reinstalled old fuel filter, same hesitation. Looks like I have a bad coil, doesn't make me look too good. Referencing Boschs global site, they doen't even show a plug they make for this application, althought the local parts store did. Did the bosch plug damage a coil? Coincidence? Any thoughts?
THANKS,
Todd

Hey Todd,
Same thing happened on my 2002 S40. You'll have to replace both ignition coils. They're about $50/each. You may want to look online for them.
There are several other posts on here about this same thing.... (hesitation after tune-up? Replace ignition coils)
