Default 2000 S40 Security Status Light Not Functioning !

Hello I'm a first time Volvo owner,
I recently purchased a 2000 S40 1.9T with remote start. When I purchased the vehicle I noticed the light on the dash was on and blinks at times. After using the Keyless entry a few times to get to know it I noticed the light does not come on at all now.
Does anyone have any ideas on why this light no longer works? I locked the doors, reached inside, opened the door and the alarm does not sound. Is there a valet feature that I'm not aware of? I read through the manual several times but found nothing that helps.
Thank You in advance for any help.

Is the remote start function aftermarket?

I will almost bet the remote starter is piggy backed onto the factory system. Then anything could be wrong.

Yes, I believe the remote start is aftermarket.
I tried the factory keyless entry also and nothing turns the status LED on.

Does the remote starter still work normal?
If something is wrong with it that might be messing the entire system up.
There should also be fuses in the aftermarket alarm system under the dash.

Yes, the remote starter still works.
I don't have an aftermarket alarm, just remote start.
Also the passenger side door lock is not fully unlocking, it tries to unlock but does'nt make it all the way up.

That could very well be your problem if the lock isn't opening all the way then the alarm wont set if it is also not locked all the way.Sounds like you need a new lock.

I tried disconnecting the battery for a couple hours and still no light.
What do you mean by a new lock ?
Could something just be binding ?

Most likely the lock assembly is bad.
There is micro switches internal in the lock that tell when it is locked.
It might show locked but really isn't.Or the micro switch is bad but is not replacable.

There is a factory security system on these vehicles, correct?
Is the light that is on top of the right hand front speaker supposed to flash ?
Where can I buy a service manual for the 2000 S40 ?
