Default 2000 S40 transm fluid

Im asking about which transmission fluid I have to use on my 2000 S40. Its recomended to do a flushing to the transm??? And I need to know what are the S and W modes for the transmission and how I use them?? Im new in this forum and that S40 is my first car.

S is sport mode. W is winter/wet weather mode. When you use "W" in bad weather it will not allow the car to "take off" from a dead stop. It also makes slowing down easier. "S" uses more gas but is good if you're cruising. When neither of these modes is applied, you are considered to be in economy mode, which saves gas.

S = sport mode = the transmission reaches longer before shifting
W = winter mode = the transmission starts out in higher gear to prevent slipping

I personally flushed my transmission at 90k miles at the dealer. Really it's not that expensive at the dealer and it did make a difference with shifting harshness. If you really want to do it yourself there is a how-to here:
