Question 2000 Volvo S40 & V40 SRS Light?

Ive had this car for 4 months now and this light has been on my dashboard (picture below) the whole time, I have always thought it looked like a person with a kid in back waving and thought it was telling me to make sure people in back are buckled up, yeah im stupid, I looked closer and its a airbag light. So is it something to be worried about?

If the light is on, the airbags may not deploy in an accident. So, yes.

there are a few things that will result in this light coming on. As I understand it, if you unplug the cable harness under the seat for instance and don't disconnect the battery before doing it this dash message may come up (even if everything is put back together fine). I say this to suggest that it may be that your ABS system is just fine and that all you need is to have the code cleared. If you have access to VIDA you can do this yourself, otherwise, to the dealership you need to go.

Unless you get lucky, one trip to the dealer will cost the same as a DiCE / VIDA setup.

yep you need the codes to figure it out (ie wiring or device). On my 2000 s40 it turned out I needed to replace the drivers side SRS (door airbag).
