2001 s40 cabin filter
It's above the front, passenger footwell. You'll have to remove the soundproofing panel (two screws) to see it. It's held in by a small (approx) 2" x 10" panel that is removed by opening a small plastic clip.
I believe they recommend changing it every 15K miles, but don't hold me to that. Personally, I do it twice a year.
Be glad you've got an S40. It's one of the easiest cars to change the cabin air filter and ten-timessimpler than doing it on my '98 V70. If it takes you more than three minutes, you're doing it wrong.

you are lucky if you can do it in three minutes , xc90,s60,v70 takes about 10mins all in, the 04 - s40, v50, c70 and 07 c30 take about 20 mins, have to remove a control module and remove about six big multiplugs.
