The gen 1 S40 is not the easiest car to find after market parts for. The front struts are different for the 2000 model vs the 2001-2004, and different from the Gen 2s so you'd need to be specific when ordering parts. You can find coil overs - if you are willing to fund $1000+ for a kit but in terms of finding a ready built strut marketed by Gabriel and others, I've never seen one. Your plan B option would be to buy a kit for the parts (ie strut, spring, spring seat, bushing, bump stop, dust boot etc) and have a local shop do the assembly and you do the install in the car. Interestingly, this will probably come out a cost similar to pre-builts as I'd expect this wouldn't take more than an hour of shop time to bolt the components together. You'd also get the benefit of choosing your strut type. You could also do the assembly at home but word of caution is the S40 front springs are very long and not all stick spring compressors can grab enough coils to compress fully. Also there's an allignment hole in the strut and the mount that needs to be set correctly at 20 degrees (for "sport mode" per the spec) offset otherwise the strut won't align correctly.

Thank you! That's a lot of good information!
