Can anyone tell me what other years/models have drive axles that will interchange with an '01 s40? Also, any tips for quick checks to tell their condition while at junkyard. Thanks!

2000-2004 S40s and V40s. Make sure the boot is not torn...

 

I thought it was 2001+ only - it is checked by engine #. When I replaced mine I called the volvo dealership and gave them the vin of the doner vehicle and asked them to double check compatibility for me. They were happy to help.

 

yep you are correct, its 2000 with its own part# and 2001-2004 have their own. BTW, getting a rebuilt part is not too steep. FCP quotes $80 for a rebuilt left shaft and 110 for the right...
