2001 s40 power steering problem?!?
H
I have a 2001 S40 and I seem to have a problem with the power steering...
Symptoms are:
When the car is cold and is first started the power steering is fine and is perfectly light with no odd noises, however when the car warms up after a drive at low speeds (when trying to park etc) the steering can become very heavy and a can hear a "Shhhhshshshshsing" sound (especially on full lock).
I've checked all the fluid levels and they seem fine and there is no sign on any leakage under the car. I've taken it to two garages and they are not sure...one said to replace the pump and see if that helps the other said to replace the rack??
It seems like the temperature of the fluid has something to do with it?? Could it be that the system just needs "bleeding"? Could an air blockage becausing the problem?? I've been 'living' with this problem for months now but I'm thinking of selling the car and don't want to sell it with this problem.
Anyone any ideas....???
Thanks
Ric

RE: 2001 s40 power steering problem?!?
Sounds like the problem I had...............Volvo finally changed the pump..............the auto still..........at attempting a full lock turn would then have a "jerking" motion at the steering wheel. The final.........and last fix was replacing the rack. My initial issue was a tad different as I was leaking fluid initially.
