2001 s40 will not idle, please help!
It usually takes a while to start up (I have to step on the gas) and it stalls when i get off the freeway. I found the other day that the intake hose below the idle control valve was cracked in half so i replaced it and it made a world of difference. It would start right up, no delay in acceleration, run smoother, etc. Until later that day I went to the car wash and the drains in the carwash stalls seemed to be clogged but i could not tell exactly how deep the puddle was. I parked anyways and washed my car. When I was finished I go to start it up and it was cranking so i gave it gas and it started but as soon as i let off the gas it dies right away. I cleaned the idle control valve and that didnt help. I drove it all the way home (about 8 miles) by never letting go of the gas even at stop lights. I really don't believe that the puddle was deep enough to cause any damage but I could be wrong. Please tell me what I should do now.
Check fuel pressure. Normally the long cranking time is a bad fuel pressure regulator. Also pull the vacuum hose on the FPR and check for any fuel in the line.
The hose you replaced is also another known problem. I've replaced both on my 198k mile 2001.
