Default 2002 S40 antenna mast

I am trying to replace my antenna mast. The mast bent, ultimately breaking and I can't remove the lower piece that is in the plastic dome on the outside of the car. I was able to remove the larger piece with the cord that is inside of the mast just fine. Does anyone have any tips/advice/instruction on how this is removed? Thank you all in advance.

There is a sleeve in there probably all rusted marked #2.Try to use a screw driver as on the picture if you are lucky it will come out. Before you do that its a good idea to soak the thing with some PB or at least WD-40 overnight.

There has to be.This antenna is the same up to 2004.05.It is possible that the nut is missing tho which is an issue.Probably the whole assembly rusted in there could be difficult to fix it up.Take out the whole unit and work on it like that.Still I would check the junkyards for a used but working one.Would be much easier just replace it not to mention if you do indeed missing the nut you have to go to the yard to get it anyway I dont think you can get it anywhere else. The new unit is kinda overpriced.
If you still insist that you have a different antenna then you better make a picture of it so we can help you further.VADIS says you have the same and I know it so as well.

Appreciate your continued help; the picture of my antenna is below. Not sure if I'm over thinking this, but at this point it seems it would be just as easy to swap out the motor.......

Hey happy to help NP.There is the nut on your antenna as well .It just a bit rounded doesnt actually look like a nut and a little bit buried into the rubber but its there. You must take the nut out to continue. After you took the nut out you can take the last broken piece and the sleeve marked #2 on the picture.
Happy New Year.

jeez...im getting old! Thanks again. I am attempting to remove the nut, but it seems it won't fully remove. I keep unscrewing with no success. Should the nut in the attached remove completely? If not, I am still not having any luck getting the piece out, let alone seeing the sleeve. Not sure if it is hostorically a PIA to remove the nut?

jumped the gun; I was able to work the nut out. I am now stuck with that lower piece not budging. I've used PB spray, tried pulling with needlenose and mini vice grips with no luck. Any suggestions aside of throwing a brick through the side of my car ?

Luke use the force. Would be easier if you still have a longer piece to grab onto but all you have to do now is grab the sucker real hard jump on your roof and pull like crazy.
I myself broke the actual antenna piece and was left with nothing to grab onto.Ended up drilling the sleeve out.You just have to chose the right size drill and go very carefully.Take a measurement from the new sleeve so you will drill it exact.

Thanks again for all the help gerb! I believe I was able to drill out the sleeve. I am now trying to insert the new antenna, but it seems there may be too much cord to push down the actual antenna. Is this possible? Do you have any info on how long the cord should be? I am able to have the motor grip the cord fine, and the antenna doesn't just slip in, it seems I need to use force (given the amount of cord I have is OK). Would you be able to post the diagram of replacing the antenna?...still Lost!

You'll need a helper to be able to do it correctly. The motor should pull it all in.Have the radio on wait until the motor stops.Insert the end into the hole and then have someone turn the radio off.It might take a couple of try I dont remember pushing it in at all.Make sure that the mast is facing the right way before insertion. If the motor doesnt pull the whole length in then put the sleeve into its place and put the nut on too then turn the radio on again then off.It should pull the mast in fully now.You only have to take the whole unit apart if the plastic broke and a part stuck inside.

I don't have your answer but a word to the wise... "people, lubricate your antenna monthly".
