2002 S40 Oil Change
I have a 2002 S40 1.9T. Will i need a socket to change the filter? Which grade should I go for? 5w-30 or 10W? I live in the South Bay so weather is cold and hot, but its almost winter. Also what brand of filter and oil?
Im going full synthetic oil, but I think Walmart has the best price for oil and amazon for filter? Or is a local O'Reileys/AutoZone be better?

IPD has the tool you need, Oil Filter Cap Wrench Socket. You can get them elsewhere too.
Living in Maryland, I usually run 5W30 in winter and 10W30 in the summer.

I think you can find the oil filter socket at the local parts store too. You can't go wrong with IPD though.
I'm a 5W-30 believer all times of the year. And fully synthetic is the only way to go IMHO. Brand does not matter.

My brother found the oil filter socket on e-bay for ten bucks. The filter cartridge can be bought at Pep Boys for @ $10. Many other retailers sell it for 15-17 bucks. The $10.00 one in Made in the USA.
I didnt find the oil filter socket at Reileys....ironically, the Manager said HE couldnt find it on the retail market.

You can use a large pair of adjustable pliers, or a strap wrench in a pinch (not recommended) but use the special wrench, not hard to get.
I recommend running 5w-40 year round. Rotella T6 is the best. Mann or OEM filters are best. Cheaper filters tend to collapse.
