2002 volvo s40 1.9t4 auto
Hello guys im a new member of this forum i recently bought this car amd i love it but was wondering if the transmission filter is external or internal in this car and should i change the fluid or flush it.
Thank u guys
Thank u guys
There isn't a filter as Volvo thinks the fluid will last until the car dies. Or Volvo thinks the car is disposable, not sure. For some reason we like to fix them and keep them running.
Anyway, most people recommend several drain and fills. That is, drain the fluid into buckets using the drain plug. Mark the level of the old fluid on the buckets. (I needed two paint buckets from the local hardware store) Now pour out the old fluid, clean the buckets and fill them with new fluid to the mark you made previously. Using a long skinny trans funnel, refill the trans with your fresh fluid through the dipstick tube. Then drive the car for a few days before repeating the process. After 4 times you will have replace 90+ % of your trans fluid.
Paying someone to flush the trans is much easier but rumors abound that it kills your trans because of all the crud that breaks loose and is circulated through the tiny orifices.
