2003 strut issue
I had the struts and mounts replaced about 8 months ago. Since the replacement the drivers side strut has creaked when going into driveways and over speedbumps. I took it back and he said that the springs were just rubbing on the new mounts and would eventually wear in. However they have not worn in and now the steering creaks when I turn to the left.
One other thing I noticed is that when you have the hood open and look at the top of the drivers side strut mount the strut thread does not sit centered in the mount as the passenger side does.
Any help anyone can give me or ideas of what to look at would be appreciated.

I would give them a good look over. The springs fit into a rubber piece on the bottom. It takes some adjusting to get them to sit just right so that when you release tension they go back to the original spot.
And the strut should be centered in the mount as it sticks up in the engine compartment. If they are not centered then the rubber mount is wore out (or was never replaced and it's still the original part).

When you look at the topside of the strut from above in the engine compartment, the single bolt should be centered in the strut mount. If it is not, the mount has gone bad. Incidentally, I've gone through two aftermarket mounts over very short periods of time - and I live in the city and mostly do highway driving! Eventually I caved and put some volvo OEM mounts back in. My squeaking vanished completely. I actually held the aftermarket mount in one hand and the volvo OEM in the other and I can tell you that the volvo part felt much, much sturdier. If you are going to throw a new mount in, make sure it is OEM AND replace the bearing at the same time just to be safe. The bearing is $15 so no biggy.
