2004.05 T5 A/C Problem
The A/C in my 2004.05 S40 T5 works intermittently. When the temperature outside is above 75 or so, the A/C will flow cold air for about 5 - 10 minutes and then the same flow of air continues, however, the air is warm and muggy. Also, I have no clue if this is related, but the outside temperature indicator typically indicates that the temperature outside is about 5 - 10 degree higher outside than what I would assume the temperature should be when this problem with the A/C occurs. I've read some other posts on the forums about similar problems. It seems like the common solution is either reshimming the clutch or replace the temperature sensor.
I took my care in to a local dealer (in the SF Bay Area) to have them look at the problem. They produced the following notes: "A/C System cools down to 37 degrees Fahrenheit when is cold. When this condition happens the A/C compress may be the cause of no cold air. Need to run engine for approximately 2 hours or more with A/C on to check for bad compessor. A/C system does not below cold air after engine being ran in shop for 30 minutes. Battery voltage present at A/C compressor but clutch is not engaging. This indicates bad A/C compressor clutch windings. Rec: to replace compressor and drive belts."
I do not have $1,200 to replace the compressor, and moreover, do not want to spend that kind of money down the road if there is any other viable solution to the problem.
I would very very very much appreciate any advice or thoughts anyone has. Do you think replacing the temperature sensor or reshimming the clutch might sold this problem?
Thank you all in advance for your time.
