Default 2004 S60 Fuel Overflow Problem

This is the second Volvo in 10 years that I have owned and my family has owned volvo's for as long as I can remember. I have never had this problem (previously had a 1993 850T). Everytime we got the gas pump to fill up by the time the nozzle stops gas is pouring all over the side of the car. This is not a safe condition, nevermind wastes GAS! I would really like for all of it to end up in the tank. Is there a fix for this, or just an annoying design flaw?

I just noticed that my '04 2.5t is doing the same thing. When I pump the pump shuts off, so I pull out the nozzle and there is a pool of gas where the cap goes, and it starts leaking on the ground.... gonna keep my eye on it... Definately would appreciate some help as well

I had the same issue on my 2004 S60 2.5T. The dealer replaced my fuel tank under warranty. (CPO warranty to 100k) He said there is a backflow valve in the tank/filler tube which became stuck.

You might have a claim since this is an environmental issue even if you are out of the standard warranty. Since the entire tank had to be changed I am sure it wouldn't have been cheap to do without the warranty.

Best of luck!

Daniel

I am taking my car to my Volvo Specialist tomorrow, so I will bring this up, and see what he says. Thanks for the advice..

Arrow Spewage

I recently bought an S60 and I have just started doing the overflow dance. I was hoping for an easy inexpensive fix. Has anyone fixed this issue without replacing the gas tank? I have a drawer full of hammers (finese tools)

yeah its an issue with these cars (just about the only one)
just wait till your about full normally 13-14 gallons after the low fuel light comes on and just listen carefully, you can hear the tube starting to fill and simply shut it off.
