2004.5 2.4 Heater/ventilation/AC acts loony
Whats up everybody?
This is my first post on this forum. Yay. Anyway, I am asking on behalf of my girlfriend and her 04/05 S40 2.4. Her HVAC acts pretty crazy. In the summer while rocking the A/C, the passengers side will blow cold and the drivers side will blow heated air. The 'dual zone' is set so both have the same settings. This sometimes is fixed by turning the temp all the way down and all the way up and then finally back to the desired setting.
Now that it is winter, the heater blows the same temperature from 72-88. Only when set on 'high' does it blownoticably hotter. In addition to this, the center-drivers side vent blows very very weak while the others are blowing normally. WTF?! I have read the manual to see if any of the climate control settings are tied to seat heaters or outside temp but found nothing of the sort.
Any ideas/suggestions are appreciated. I do all the other service on the vehicle but this is weird.
Thanks
B

As much as I hate to say this you might have to go to the dealer and have them hook this up to their diagnostic tool. It's going to cost you about $75 but it just might be worth the trouble instead of changing a bunch of actuators and electronics and spending money on parts that you really don't need to replace. I'm also thinking that this car is rather new and I'm suprised it is not still under warranty.
Word about warranty. Unfortunately, the car is up around 56k and according to the books that came with the car, this item is not covered any more.
I read somewhere that there is a software update that needs to be performed. I wonder if the dealer can tell me if the update has been done already. . .
