2004 s40
Hello everyone,
New member here with a question( I hope that's ok?)
My son owns a 2004 s40 that he cannot get into. The keyless fob stopped working some time ago. He has been using the manual door key to open the door. As of yesterday, the key will no longer turn to open the door. We have had some bad weather here. I didn't know if it could ice up like a regular key
cylinder or not.
Any help you could give me is greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Tim

It's just a regular key cylinder. I've found that WD-40 that's room temperature works fine to unfreeze the cylinder. Just poke the little spray tube inside the cylinder and give it a good spray. Then gently try to open the lock. If it won't open do not force it. Just keep spraying the WD-40 or similar warm lube until the lock works.
I've also found that plain old very hot water works to melt the ice long enough to get the key to work but soon freezes back up. If you go this route please avoid getting hot water on the window. And follow up with lube inside the lock cylinder.

Its all mechanical when the key is being used the WD-40/de-icer should have had worked.Looks like you need to look deeper once you manage to open the door.Could be a practical joker friend with some Loctite.
