2004 S40 electrical problems
So a few weeks ago my car would randomly shut off while driving and eventually would start again. Yesterday i went out and tried to start it and it wouldn't turn over so i jumped the battery and got it started. Then i got home and turned it off and later when i tried to start it again it had no juice so i went and bought a new battery. When i attached the battery cables to the new battery it starts sparking so i believe theres a short somewhere. My dash is showing the immobilizer error as well.
Can anyone help me figure this one out before i bring it to a shop?

Can you hook up a multi-meter set to amps between the pos cable and battery to check amp draw? It should really be only a few milliamps for the radio/clock memory. If you are getting 5-10 amps then I'd start pulling fuses to find the problem circuit.
