Default 2004 Volvo s40 1.9 Rattle? Not sure what it is

I have a 2004 s40 engine size is 1.9. I have 92000 miles on it, i have a weird rattle coming from what sounds like the passengers side. Only happens when i hit bumps. i have looked at everything and cant find the problem. mechanic says everything in the wheel well is good.

Any ideas? or has anyone ever had the similar problem?

any help would be amazing

i'll bet anything it's your sway bar brackets. if you pull the right front wheel, you can barely see the bracket. the rubber bushing has most likely worn away or the bracket itself is broken.

you can see it, but you can't get to it. it's like a tease. and, you can't see the one on the left, so don't bother pulling the wheel to look for it.

in order to replace them, the sub-frame has to be dropped.

the good news: it's about 4 - 5 hours of labor if you have the equipment and know what you're doing. the brackets go for about $20 online.

the bad news: if you don't know what you're doing, don't attempt this repair. the stealer will charge you about $500 for parts and labor.

just another thought...check the sway bar end links for wear. they're in the wheel well, so they're easy to replace and pretty cheap.
