Question 2004 volvo s40 - BUY & INSTALL ALARM OEM ????

Hi everyone,
I have a 2004-model volvo s40 but I realized that it has no alarm module on car, because when I lock the car from its remote key, the led on the dashboard is not blinking and when I move my hand in the car when It's locked. No alarm siren or anything is not happend.
So, I called the volvo service and they want me to pay 200 USD for this OEM part.
Finally, which oem part should I buy and how can I install it?

many thanks...: confused:

Is this a PH2 or the new body style. If its the PH2 then as far as I know all were sold with factory alarm. If you dont see the LED blinking that means the alarm is not engeged.Usual suspect is the micro switch at the hood.If the alarm doesnt get all the signal as closed from the doors it will not engage. This car doesnt have motion sensor so you cant make it go off even if the alarm is turned on.

In my opinion if a person with bad intention already inside your car usually means hes already bypassed the alarm system why do you need the motion sensor?
Now it is possible that you may be able to add a sensor to the current system but you have to ask the dealer about it.
To see if your alarm is working or not well seeing your not inclined with this type of work I would say you should go to the dealer to diagnose the problem.
Your problem could be but not limited to:
Low/bad battery in the remote(alarm still should engage by locking the car using the key)
Hood/trunk microswitch doesnt work which is an easy fix usually a dose of WD-40 fixes the problem.
A question tho how long do you have this car and just wondering iwhy you just noticed that you dont have alarm. Was it ever working?

I have my volvo for 2 years but It's always staying in my garage because of my job.. 2500 miles have been done for 2 years..
You're right, I don't need a motion sensor. but I will make my service check its alarm system. Battery of remote is in very good condition because It's working from 20 meters away.
I never saw the alarm working.

Previous owner could say if there was an aftermarket system installed which would require the removal of the factory one.Guess when he sold the car he took the aftermarket one out.Id say go and see the dealer as at this point no one else can help you anyway. If they can make your alarm work again for $200 thats not too bad considering they charged me about the same only for 2 new remote.I just thought your problem can be a lot simplier and an easy fix.My hood switch needs to be sprayed about every 2 years as its producing the same problem as you are having now.
