2005 S40 2.4i Ignition Switch
On Friday my S40 2.4i wouldn't start an displayed "Key Error Try Again", on the display. I called a Volvo dealer I know, explained what the display says and they said that I might need to change the ignition key switch and if that doesn't work maybe the steering lock module. The problem is I'm on a tight budget so is it possible to get a switch and module from a "scrapped", car or is there any other place I can get the items except from the dealer?
Had this problem today on my 2005 V50 wagon (same as S40 car). I saw another post that said to tap on key with hammer and thought it was crazy, but guess what it worked. I used the plastic handle of screw driver to tap on the key while it was in the ignition slot in the on position. There must be a build up of dust and dirt in the switch that is loosened up by the taping. Not sure how long it will work but it beats towing it to the dealership which would surely equal a $1K plus tab. Thanks for the other posts
