Default 2005 S40 T5 with rod knock. Rebuild, replace, or part out?

I'm hoping to get some input on my options for what to do with my S40:

It's a 2005 AWD auto T5 and has about 125k miles. The motor just developed a rod knock. The PCV failed, boost got into the crankcase and blew out the front main seal. The oil level dropped and starved the pump pickup. Oil light came on for a second during an onramp pull. I pulled off at next exit and found the low oil level and wetness in the lower portion of the bay. I topped up the oil and ordered a new PCV/oil filter housing and engine seals but the damage was done. The knock began a day later.

1) Are these engines rebuildable? I can do the removal, disassembly, reassembly, and installation myself, but I can't find technical references for crank reconditioning or replacement bearing specs nor many other tolerances and torque specs for the motor.

2) Could buy a used motor. Looks like about $2000 for a used long block with fewer miles thna the one I have. Would save me tons of time, but pricier than a rebuild (I can get machine work done at steep discounts, if only I could find specs).

3) Part out the car? How much could I realistically get from parts? I owe nearly $7k on the bloody thing. I feel like it would be a long shot to recoup most of that in parts.

Any advice, constructive or otherwise, is appreciated.

My vote would be to get a replacement engine. A quick trolling of car-part.com suggests to me that you could get something reasonable for $1500. You would be back on the road much more quickly and would still have a great vwhicle on your hands with a fair amount of life left.
