knock knock, who's there
I have a 2001 S80 with T6, with 360,200 miles. In September of 2013 I had the head gasket replaced and a valve job at the same time. (this was with 308,000 miles).
Since then the car has pretty much run flawlessly. Until a couple of weeks ago. Upon returning home from a short business trip, I tried to restart the car to move to a better parking location. The car would not start - would turn over but not fire. Messed with it on Saturday but still no fire. On Sunday, I got it to start, but on start up, there came what I would call a loud ticking noise. Read codes and was getting p0267 code.
For some reason that code went away and did not come back when erased.
But then I started getting a p0118 code which led me to the ECT sensor. Upon looking at the connector, I noticed the ground wire was broken.
I checked the oil and realized it was over full. And it smelled like gas. Decided best to get that out and changed oil and filter - went back in with 10-40. After just a couple of seconds the noise quieted down a little, but it was still there. I repaired the ground wire and the 10118 code went away. At the same time i got an 0303 code which i traced to s faulty coil on #3 cylinder. replaced that and it seems to run fine, except now I have this loud ticking noise. Some of the folks here at work have listened to it and have varying diagnosis - one says it sounds like it is in the valve train, but if it was, the engine would not run as well as it does, another says it is either a wrist pin or a piston slap and yet another said he thought it was a lifter. All of these folks are technicians who work on Volvo Truck and occasionally on Volvo cars.
Does anybody have any thoughts? I drive 47 miles each way to and from work and today was the first day I have driven this car since all this started, and usually once a week I drive it on a business trip that is about 250 miles round trip.

could be a "sunken" lifter. I'm not totally familiar with the T6s but in cars with hydraulic lifters there's a small spring and the lifter is fed oil pressure to cushion the lifter when the valve is fully closed (ie no valve adjusting). if for some reason the oil clogs or the spring fails it will sound like an old engine that needs its lifters adjusted... You could try a Seafoam treatment to see if you can get it to loosen up...
