My rear plate lights are not working and the trunk release does not work either. It doesn't matter whether I try to use the remote or the electric release on the trunk itself. The emergency cable release does work.

I'd previously assumed the trunk release was from being rear-ended a couple years ago, but when I couldn't relicense the car because the plate lights were out and replacing them didn't help I figured it might be something in common between the two.

So, here's what I've done:

1. Visually checked all fuses.
2. Replaced the plate lights.
3. Replaced the trunk wiring harness, part number 8697604-A.
4. Rechecked all fuses with a continuity tester.

My next thought is to check the next wiring harness up the chain, but I haven't found a manual for the vehicle or any information about it, so I thought I'd ask here and see if anyone had other ideas or if I should just tear into it and see what I find.
