Default 2006 s40 Cam Cover Green o-ring? Help.

I recently took on the challenge of rebuilding the heads. I am now ready to put the cam cover back on but can't find the name of these green o-rings anywhere or how many I need (not talking about spark plug well O-rings). I attached a picture of when I first removed the cam cover before head rebuild. It looks like its an oil port, but not really sure.. Anyone have any idea of the part number or where I can purchase these??

thanks for any help!

If you ordered a head gasket set they should be there. A total of 5 O-rings for the spark plug wells.

If not, just go to the dealer or online and buy them. They are the same for all Volvo engines of this era 5-cyl and 6. Also, make DAMN SURE that you use the correct anerobic sealant when putting the head together. Do not be tempted to use silicone, Elmer's Glue, Bisquick, etc.

The other sealers will clog up the oil passages. The volvo anerobic sealant will seal only where the two surfaces meet and any that squeezes out in an oil gallery will be washed away by the oil.

I ordered the gasket set, and it did come with 5 O-rings for the spark plugs wells, but did not come with the two little green O-rings. If you expand the attached picture I circled the O-rings in red. Dealership could not locate part number for some odd reason? and did not come up in the part schematics. Thank you for the quick response.

Okay - I see what you mean. I don't recall having any O-rings on that end of the engine during assembly. From the looks of your breather system, it looks like a more modern 5-cylinder than 2006.

Anyway, is there a groove there for the O-rings to set?

I purchased the s40 used in 2012, I had all service records, but it could be possible engine was swapped. Either way, No one seems to recall those O-rings during similar rebuilds for 2006 and up.
Yes, There is a groove for the O-rings to set. Thanks again for the quick response.

I would guess that it uses the same O-rings that are used when you remove the oil pan. There are two O-rings between the oil pump and pan openings. It kinda looks like you have the same thing on the reverse side on that engine.

If you check eBay for Volvo oil pan seal set, you will find a package of O-rings. Its cheap about $12. That's what I would try.

Also, get the engine number and see if it matches your car.

SOLVED: The O-ring belongs to the VVT(variable valve timing) Solenoid that got stuck on the head. I attached the picture incase it might help anyone. Can these O-rings be purchased separately? thanks again!

Yep, those are available separately. 30612805 is the part number. 30640846 is the upper o-ring on the solenoid. Good thing you didn't "try" an oil pan o-ring kit.

Your engine doesn't look like "a more modern engine than a 2006" either, I wouldn't worry about it having been swapped.

Did you put a green oring on each hole or just the intake side with the vbt solenoid?
