Hi all, what happened to my AC Compressor? See pics below:
I honestly don't care about AC and wanted to know if there is a delete for my car or if I can try and remove the broken metal parts without taking the entire unit off.
Part of the AC clutch is broken - possibly when the compressor seized. If the bearing in the clutch (in the pulley) is still ok - (not noisy) you can drive it like that with no problem. The ac belt is needed to be able to drive the alternator (via the other belt on the AC pulley)
If the bearing is noisy - you might be able to just replace the clutch - however many times after a compressor failure such as that the clutch simply won't cleanly come off, and damages the clutch mounting.
the good news is for many models the clutch can be serviced without opening the system. Check your local parts stores or online stores to see if a replacement AC clutch is available.
