Default Advice for First steps after purchase 2011 D3. The Yays and Noes.

Hey all,

Newcommer to the forum here which I am just really darn happy to have for this S40 and hopefully a long road ahead.

I'm Sean. I just bought a used 2011 S40 D3 (uk) at 68000 miles. As I'm not a mechanic, and generally well versed to incompetencies, I went with gut instinct (ended up being a food pang). Now there is a loss of appetite after coming home with this handsome vehicle and reading throgh the forums as well as how to operate a diesel car. Conclusion: I've booked a Volvo Dealership service date on August 6th.

I imagine some of you diseal owners are into it because of longevity, I think I'll join that, and this fellow on youtube I really liked his tips on maintaining to 300,000mi:
Point made, more frequest services than manufacturers suggestion, and don't leave things unattended to...

Starting with Timing belts ...
- The Full Service History is a bunch of stamps (3 in total) I deduced 3 owners, and called the one that ticked the car over 10 years. Really helpful talk with previous maintenence shop, and we don't think the belts been changed - no stickers under the hood.
--- Will cost 850 pounds --- but I'm reasonably certain that you guys would agree, big risk.

I've asked for a 350 pound full service (gosh this all is fairly dear - as now approaching 1/3 the cost I bought it for and realize the power of haggling which I do not possess .... but again, you guys would agree, lets get it done.

The above is my start for August 6th. I'd like the dealership to have a look at the car and see if there is anything else wrong - it drove really good, no major corrosion, and isn't puking any liquids anywhere.

Any suggestions as a -not to miss- or -not to forget- to have a look at or you would consider replacing from the get-go?
and Any advice / solutions for the phone-AUX solution (I saw that the clever owners manuel simply states 'if my model has bluetooth') of which I have actually no idea how to check. And no USB, and no obvious hidden jack. There must be a solution so I can listen to my long drive podcasts ???

* my second incompetency, as I look at the service history, the car wasn't driven many miles, could be infrequent ... could be in the city, and diesel and city driving I guess are not a good match.

Gosh! But thanks all, and big thanks for having this network available!
Sean
