Air Conditioner stops blowing cold
I'm thinking the same thing mt6127 is. Just look at the AC compressor when it's NOT blowing cold, and see if you can tell if the very front part of the pulley is stationary or not. If it IS, chances are it's the "gap thing", which can be a good bit of news since there are some truly cheap easy fixes for it. The easiest way to see if that IS the case is to wait until it's not blowing cold, and then verify that the front of the pulley IS stationary, then (carefully!) tap the center of the stationary part with a broomstick or similar tool. If the clutch engages again, and you're blowing cold air, you know to "fix the gap thing" (look it up on this forum - lots of info).
I'd start by checking out the compressor clutch. What happens is over time the clutch wears and the gap grows from .03mm to about .06-.08. This causes it to slip slightly which builds up heat and as it heats up, the solenoid loses its pull so the clutch disengages. Once the clutch cools off, it starts working again. Most shops will simply recommend installing a new compressor (complete with clutch) but there are shims in the clutch which can be replaced to correct the gap. This can be done without removing the compressor on some models which saves opening the system up and the time/expense of properly recharging the system.
