Default "Alarm Service Requested" Message

Hi all,

I've been getting this "Alarm Service" message on my dash. The alarm system hasn't worked for quite some time, but it's not a big deal for me. Is the only way to remove this message to go to the dealer? My vehicle is pretty old, and I like my local mechanic, but he's unable to remove this warning light. I figure dealer service just to remove the message would run me at least a hundred bucks. Thanks!

Rob

There is a NiMH rechargeable battery that goes bad inside the alarm module. If it hasn't leaked acid all over the circuit board yet you may be able to replace it. You probably won't find a direct replacement but you may be able to find something with the same specs that will fit with a little modification to the case. I was able to do this with the one in my V50. The green battery is the original and the white is my replacement.
