Alternative radio setup on S40
I know there's been queries into this, but has anyone actually found a feasible alternative radio setup for the 2004.5 and up S40s? One that would be amenable to iPod and iPhone adaptation?
Thanks in advance.

Has anyone come up with a method for connecting ipod to 2005 s40. Crutchfields, bestbuy, and 3 independent stereo installers in town say it cant be done. something about 2005 only year for optical antenna??
You can get an FM modulator that connects to the antenna. The S40/V50 antenna connector is not a standard antenna type. However, you can use a 9V battery connector (Radio Shack) and make a connector. I haven't done it myself but I have seen where others have. Swedespeed Forums - XM Commander Install, Plus I found the missing AFM
Also, the Dension Gateway 500 connects to the optical MOST bus that is used in these cars. However, I believe you need the Premium sound system with the CD changer. Swedespeed Forums - Dension GW500 Install... HOW TO DIY
The Grom Audio connects to the optical MOST bus.

There are threads on Swede Speed where someone relocated the ICM display to the overhead console and installed an aftermarket stereo in its place.

I spent a lot of time also trying to figure out a way to my ipod/iphone to play through my 2005 S40 and after researching a few different options including having something installed (not possible because of the waterfall-like dashboard) and fm modulation, the best solution was a C. Crane fm transmitter. (C. Crane FMT Digital FM Transmitter with AC Adapter - 57 bucks off amazon)
I had tried iTrip and a few other fm transmitters that were really terrible and because I live in a rather large city, hardly any of the stations were clear. But the C. Crane fm transmitter is pretty powerful and you can easily open it up and turn up the transmitting functions to broadcast at I think three times what an iTrip (or comparable fm transmitter) would be legally set up for.
I just attached it with velcro strips to the underside of the my seat so it's out of sight and it works great, was cheap compared to getting fm modulation done and for the most part, it works without radio interference.
