You need to leave the key in the first position for 2 to 3 hours or so till it says code. Then you can enter the code and it should work.
Off means someone entered the wrong code 3 times.

Rummage through all the glove box including the inside-last page of the owners manual and radio manual.
Pull the ashtray and look underneath both the compartment and tray.
Lift the console and look under the lid.

good to know..someone told me to leave it on the 2 position for 2-4 hours but of course the battery was dead within the first hour..lol
