Default Always replace rotors???

I have a 2000 S40 with 62k miles. My front pads are low. A local auto service (not Volvo) saysrotors must be replaced when changing pads. He has not looked at the rotor (or checked for spec). Is rotor change an automatic requirement when changing pads?

it all depends...usually you dont change your rotors when you change your pads...rotors are supposed to last longer than the pads. Now a days most places wont shave rotors down and if they need to be replaced they will rather than be reused...but as far as replacing rotors its not that they should be changed with pads but rather when they need to be replaced...

Unless you've had some braking problems then all you need to do is replace the pads. Rotors are good for much longer, unless they are grooved badly. By the way, Volvo does not recommend turning rotors as they are prone to warping if turned.
